Born from the underground into an era of disorder, where harmony is dissonant and resolution remains out of reach, Franky Fox emerges from a self-imposed silence with a singular realization: the time has come to return to the stage.
After watching his previous band wilt away, Fox retreated behind the glass of the industry’s most respected recording studios. What followed were years of developing his ears as an engineer and producer. Working on other artist’s music, he continued honing his skills, earning a Grammy along the way. Yet for all the success found in the control room, something essential was missing.
Watching his hometown of Los Angeles go from being a thriving haven for live music into a declining western civilization, Fox found himself drawn back to his roots, writing songs reminiscent of Deerhunter, The Beach Boys, and the Elephant 6 Recording Company. As the songs began to multiply, Fox assembled a band of lifelong friends and named it Prefix.
More than a band, Prefix is the sound of a musician stepping back into the unknown. Sharpened by experience and driven by loss. Prefix have arrived with one question:
What if The Beach Boys were scary?
SPENCER HOFFMAN (LA)
From The Spill Magazine:
Being a singer-songwriter from Los Angeles will always draw comparisons with the early to mid-70s, when the so-called golden age of California Sound ruled, well, the airwaves then. In the days of streaming the newer generations, one might not be sure what that means, but with his second album Cherry Picker, LA singer-songwriter Spencer Hoffman just might give them a very good hint what that sound can offer when it is both thoughtfully and carefully done. Music& Audio
What that would mean is have an individual, but at the same time a diversified sound that doesn’t simply stick to possible set formulas, even if there is inspiration from greats of the sound that are well-known (Jackson Browne) or not so well known (David Ackles).
Hoffman goes exactly that diversified route by bringing quite a few rich arrangements to his songs here, based on some very good, solid songwriting and lyrics, making this album quite a mature, very listenable offering.
LOS VAMPIS
Los Vampis is a band from Sacramento, California, formed in the summer of 2024. Brought together by their love for rock en español, they started as friends and evolved into a band with a sound of their own. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of influences—from twee and jangle pop to tontipop, post-punk, punk, and even the romantic stylings of José José—Los Vampis create music that’s vibrant, melodic, and uniquely theirs.
